Ellen K. Wade, Esq.

Ellen K. Wade is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College (A.B.), University of Massachusetts (M.A.) and Northeastern University School of Law (J.D.).  Also a licensed attorney in Texas, she practiced law in Massachusetts for over twenty-five years.  Immediately prior to founding Wade & Horowitz LLC she was of counsel to the Boston firm of Sugarman, Rogers, Barshak and Cohen.  She was a founding co-chair of both the Massachusetts Women’s Bar Association’s Elder Law Project and the Estate Planning Practice Section of the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association; she was a member of the Policy Committee of the LGBT Aging Project, of the Massachusetts Bar Association, and of the National Lawyers Guild; and she was a past board member of the ACLU of Massachusetts. She, along with Attorney Gail Horowitz, received the Women’s Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award in 2001 in recognition of their pro bono work with elders.  Also a plaintiff in the Massachusetts same sex marriage case and in the second-parent adoption case, she was honored with the Massachusetts Bar Association’s 2004 Community Service Award.  She was named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer each year since 2005 in Estate Planning & Probate. Attorney Wade also appeared on Boston Magazine’s 2018 listing of “Top Women Attorneys in Massachusetts". 

Attorney Wade concentrated her practice in the areas of complex estate and gift tax planning, probate and elder law.  She lectured on various topics, among them estate and gift tax planning for all persons, as well as the special planning issues confronted by single persons, unmarried couples, and same-sex married couples.  She addressed a wide range of audiences, including the Massachusetts Bar Association, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc., the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association, PridePlanners, the National Academy of Elder Lawyers (both the national organization and the Massachusetts chapter), the Brookline Senior Center and various other non-profit organizations.
